English major energy- young woman editor

Jelly’s written work reflects both a sweeping intellectual
curiosity and a keen attention to details, and her participating
in class conversations contributes significantly to the learning of everyone around her. She is a pleasure to have as a student – and a collaborator!

Angelica (best known as Jelly) is one of the students at DU I hold in high regard. Her work ethic is something I cannot wrap my head around. I applaud her for working so hard and admire her ability to create amazing work. Jelly has a lot of classes during the semester, and somehow, she balances that out with her job as a student tutor on campus. Usually, tutors have several time slots within the week for students who need help on specific papers or assignments. Jelly has been my tutor a couple of times, and she has helped me tremendously. I honestly believe without her help; I would’ve had such a hard time without her help. Jelly was familiar with the content and work ethic for a class I struggled with. With her guidance, she explained the assignments thoroughly and in different ways I could understand. She is very resourceful and articulate and has helped me form a clear end goal for my class, thus easing my worries tenfold. As a peer, Jelly has helped me with my creative writing. I am lucky to have had her in a poetry class where we practiced peer work. Jelly’s feedback was very detailed and insightful. Her feedback helped me dive into my pieces a bit more to see what was missing or rework something that could be elevated. I cannot speak for my other peers in that class, but I strongly believe they appreciated Jelly’s contributions.

“Jelly has a special gift for engaging with a writer’s project conceptually—and for offering careful feedback that reflects this engagement. Jelly is unafraid to step into the haunted house and dig beneath the floorboards.”—Jen Stockdale (Poetry Instructor and Writing Fellows Coordinator)
